Yes.. the NDIS is a great opportunity for many people but it still has the same limitations that all funding programs have had for years and years. And that is, that money doesn’t think. Of course it can open new doors for you and make some existing pathways more comfortable. At the same time if you imbed yourself and the people you love in service models that that limit your opportunities within things like policies and procedures that are supposed to be good for you, but in reality are designed to protect the agencies, models that apply too many rules and regulations or fit you into a one size fits all model of support; yes that can happen if you are supported as an individual, then no amount of money may be enough for you to get the life that you want.
Regardless of how much money you have to spend, or how good you believe your plan is, if you find yourself looking and talking to agencies about getting a service instead of looking for the life that you want then it will be harder and harder to use your resources in a way that continue to give you better stories to tell.
The basic model of the NDIS, (even though it claims to do great things) it does, in many ways limit the opportunity for people to take the time needed to think deeply about their lives, to imagine better and to develop unique service approaches that are developed and designed specifically in response to the unique person you are. This takes time and to fully understand what a fulfilled life looks like to you we do need to be talking deeply about what you value, your passions, your dreams and your interests.
We encourage you, it doesn’t matter to us if it is with us or anyone else, to expect more. But more isn’t just about hours and funds. It’s about someone spending the time with you to think and to listen to you, to understand your passions and dreams and who will try and make sure that all of these resources with hopefully end up giving you more and more Better Stories to Tell throughout your life.
