Gardening Australia came out to our SEEDS Communal Garden this week to film
Jo and her team of gardeners; people we support, staff and community garden club members, did a fantastic job of welcoming the Gardening Australia Crew from the ABC and telling our story.
Of course the garden is not just a garden for us. It’s a story. It’s a story about connection and relationships. It’s a story about creating opportunities for people to share time and space with people, not because they have similar needs, but because they share an interest that they love.
The garden is the centre piece of this story and it’s fantastic, but it will never be as good as the branches that come from it. The new connections that people have in their lives, the valued work roles that our participants develop, the new friendships and relationships that people have and the stories that people can tell about the beautiful things in their lives and how they are making a difference for others.
So you know the Gardening Australia crew and presenters were fantastic trying to understand what the garden means to us and were incredibly welcoming and engaging with everyone.
In case you somehow haven’t caught up with our communal garden all the food you see on the table, in the photo with Jane below, is grown in our garden. The garden grows tonnes of food every year that is shared with our community, used in our free community food cupboard to support people who don’t have enough access to food, and given to food relief programs like the Big Umbrella.
